The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (FEB UNY), welcomed the visit of Klaten Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo, S.I.Kom., accompanied by the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Klaten Jaka Purwanto, Head of BKPSDM Klaten Agus Setyawan Prasetyoko, M.Hum., and other officials. The delegation was received by Dr. Sutirman, M.Pd., Dean of FEB UNY, along with the Heads of Departments within the faculty.
In his remarks, Dr. Sutirman expressed appreciation for the Regent’s visit and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration in education, research, and community engagement. He also noted that universities can learn from regional governments’ best practices in innovation and governance. “There are many valuable lessons we can take from Klaten’s regional development efforts and share them with our students,” he said.
The Dean further explained that FEB UNY offers comprehensive academic programs ranging from undergraduate (S1) to master’s (S2) and doctoral (S3) levels. Its master’s programs include Management, Accounting, and Economics Education, while the doctoral programs focus on Economics and Business Education. He also highlighted the possibility of opening joint classes to support the professional development of Klaten’s human resources, provided there are at least 20 participants for undergraduate programs and 10 for master’s or doctoral levels.
Meanwhile, Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo highlighted the importance of university partnerships in regional advancement. “Klaten has abundant natural and tourism potential, but it is often overshadowed by Yogyakarta and Solo. Therefore, we need more partnerships to accelerate regional development,” he said. He also emphasized that the presence of university students in a region significantly contributes to local economic growth, making such collaborations mutually beneficial.
During the visit, Regional Secretary Jaka Purwanto stressed the need to enhance the competitiveness of Klaten’s MSME products, especially in packaging and marketing. Similarly, Head of BKPSDM Klaten Agus Setyawan Prasetyoko pointed out that many local civil servants and residents still hold only undergraduate degrees, highlighting the importance of capacity-building initiatives. The collaboration with FEB UNY is therefore expected to strengthen human resource development and foster a more sustainable local economy.
This visit aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). Strengthened cooperation between higher education institutions and regional governments serves as a foundation for advancing sustainable education ecosystems and promoting inclusive, knowledge-based economic growth driven by innovation and human capital development.
